Nestled just a stone’s throw from the shores of Poole, this welcoming spot feels like a shared secret among locals and visitors alike—a place to unwind without fuss, where time slows down and good company takes center stage.
The interior is a restful blend of weathered wooden beams, soft warm lighting from vintage lamps, and subtle maritime accents that pay homage to its lakeside setting. Whether you’re settling in with friends or enjoying a quiet moment alone, the pace here is unhurried, infused with easy laughter and the gentle hum of neighbors catching up.
Food and drink at The Yachtsman are an experience in themselves, reflecting hearty, well-loved flavors crafted with care. You won’t find anything overly complicated here—each plate tells a story of familiar comfort, from perfectly crispy fish and triple-cooked chips to indulgent sticky toffee pudding that feels like a warm hug on the tongue. The drink selection balances classic pub offerings with fresh twists, where a smooth latte or a friendly pint of local Badger beer can be just as satisfying as a thoughtfully mixed cocktail.
Families find a natural rhythm here, with menu options and a relaxed setting that welcome all ages, while weekday deals and occasional live music add a lively undertone without overwhelming the calm. The staff’s genuine attentiveness makes it clear this is a place that values connection as much as comfort—whether it’s a shared platter to mark a special meal or a simple coffee enjoyed by the window, The Yachtsman feels like a steady harbor in everyday life.

The Yachtsman is a warm and inviting spot, perfect for a relaxed pint and good conversation. The interior blends classic pub charm with a touch of nautical character — wooden beams, soft lighting from vintage-style lamps, and maritime details create a cosy, welcoming feel. The seating is a mix of sturdy wooden tables, comfortable leather armchairs, and higher bar stools, offering plenty of choice depending on your mood. Large windows bring in natural light, and the gentle hum of friendly chatter adds to the laid-back atmosphere. It’s the sort of place where you instantly feel at ease, whether you’re catching up with friends or simply soaking in the ambience with a drink in hand.

Close to Rockley Park so definitely worth checking out if you’re staying there. Food was amazing, all fresh and hot. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Couldn’t fault anything!

We had a really nice meal at the Yachtsman this evening. We ordered roast dinners, and the food was very tasty and there was lots of it. Good value for money. There was live music happening which was a great addition. The two staff members that served us were very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Really enjoyed this place, looking forward to going back.

Family meal for mothers day. Grandchildren enjoyed macaroni cheese and ice-cream. Adults all had the roast beef. The roast potatoes veg Yorkshire pud etc were all very tasty. We also had a sharing platter with pigs in blankets, extra roast pots & cauli cheese. Beef a little tough & stringy in places. Probably just the joint we had as I understand they can vary. Excellent service from the lovely Grace . Meals were served quickly and we're nice and hot. Nice atmosphere and comfortable seating. We live in Poole but haven't been to the Yatchsman in years due to past bad experiences but things have certainly changed and we will be back.

A really fine pub. We went with Dorset car club for breakfast. And what a breakfast it was. Lots of it and reasonably priced. Thanks and we will be back.

We went for Quiz Night. Enjoyable and sociable evening. Great to be in a pub with Anna as landlady.

We found the dining room very cold compared to the pub. We actually ate with our coats on. The food was good but not big portions, I could have eaten more. Great service & dog friendly. It's a nice place & plenty of parking.
